Chavitti Thirummu is the oldest form of Indian massage and Kerala’s very special massage technique for vitalizing the body. It is based on the teaching of the marmas. marma points are vital energy points of the body. On a physical level, marma points are points of intersection between muscles, tendons, arteries, veins, bones and joints. Marma points are also connections between body and consciousness. A specific treatment of single or all marma points helps to vitalize body and mind, to activate self-healing powers and to let energies flow again.
In the Chavitti Thirummu massage, all marma points and nadis (subtle channels of the body) are revitalised, cleansed and strengthened.
The patient lies on the floor and the therapist massages the body with his or her feet. For stabilization he holds on to a rope hanging from the ceiling.
This type of massage has its origin in the Kalari system (Kerala’s martial art). The massage lasts about one hour and can be done for 7 to 21 days.
