Upanaha Sveda belongs to the heat treatments. Upanaha means “covering” or “bandage” and sveda means “sweating”. The sweating is caused by applying a medicinal paste to the joints. The paste consists of herbal powders, grains, herbal oils and medicinal ghee, which are further mixed with salt, lemon or fermented herbal liquids.
The warmed paste and applied to the affected joints, then first covered with a leaf of the Ricinus communis plant and then with a cotton cloth and tied with a cotton string

Upanaha Sveda relieves pain and stiffness and is used for inflamed and swollen joints, rheumatic pain or arthrosis, especially arthrosis of the knee joint.
